Apple Varieties:

CAPTAIN BROAD:
Bittersweet, once popular in Glant. Very vigorous. Green with slight stripe and russet. Grows on its own roots.
Origin: Golant, Nr Fowey
Type: Cider
Season: Mid Season

CHACEWATER LONGSTEM:
A small yellow apple with a long stalk, traditionally used for pickling.
Origin: Chacewater, Truro
Type: Pickling

COOMBE ROUGH COOKER:
Origin: Coombe, Truro
Type: Cooker

CORNISH LONGSTEM:
"Acid" green with hard flesh and a very long stem. Healthy, keeps until May / June.
Origin: Linkinhore
Type: Cooker
Season: Very Late

CORNISH PINE:
Pleasant pineapple flavour and tender flesh. Do not keep too long. Can suffer canker. May grow on its own roots.
Origin: Devon
Type: Eater
Season: Mid season

KING BYERD:
Green turning yellow with red flecks and grey russet. Prolific cropper / good keeper. Slight scab. Useful Christmas - Easter.

Season: Late / Very late

LATE VICTORIA:
Origin: Coombe, Truro.

LAURA HONEYPIN:
Origin: Cornwall
Type: Eater
Season: Mid season

POLLY (Not Polly Whitehair):
Sweet / subacid. Yellow with traces of russet. Not very vigorous.
Origin: Truro
Type: Eater
Season: 2nd early/Mid season

POLLY WHITEHAIR (a pig's nose):
Tall, conical, yellow apple with russet dots. Sweet and insipid. The name reflects the mass of white blossom. Said to be a very late keeper, may have been a good keeper hen pickled.

Season: Very Late

QUEENIE:
The St. Dominic apple. Beautiful dark red, flat apple with faint darker stripes and pale dots. Skin is waxy with a bloom. Flesh stained red and sweet, aromatic and fruity. Not ripe until it falls or just before. Keep for a week or two. Similar to, or the same as Devon Crimson Queen.

Season: 2nd Early / Mid Season

RACKY DOWN:
Origin: Cotehele

SAWPIT:
Cornish apple, resistant to scab. Very similar to Newton Wonder. Much russet on base and stem cavity. Acid but quite sweet in a good year.
Origin: Landrake
Type: Cooker
Season: Late / Very Late
